Hawthorne Bridge inspection and repairs will impact traffic week of July 12

A structural inspection and maintenance work on the Hawthorne Bridge will impact traffic the week of July 12, including lane closures and full bridge closures.·

July 12 Inspection: From 6:30 am until as late as 5 pm one lane will be closed in each direction during an independent structural inspection of the bridge.  This is part of the federally required biennial inspection of the bridge. The center westbound lane and outside eastbound lane will remain open, as well as both sidewalks.·

July 13 – 16 Bridge Closures: On four consecutive days, the bridge will be closed to all users from 3 am until 12 noon while crews replace the cables that lower the lift span of the bridge.

The lift span needs to be in the raised position when the cables are replaced. TriMet buses will detour to the Morrison Bridge, which is also the closest alternate bridge for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. For TriMet bus details, visit https://trimet.org/#alerts/. This work was rescheduled due to the heatwave in late June.  It will not impact river users passing below the bridge.

Multnomah County maintains the Hawthorne Bridge and five other Willamette River bridges.  For information, visit www.multco.us/bridges or follow us on Twitter @MultCoBridges.
