This week, construction crews began saw-cutting pavement on SE Milwaukie Avenue from SE Woodward Street to SE Gideon Street in advance of open trench excavation to install new sewer pipe (see map on back). Crews will also reconstruct manholes at SE Milwaukie and Woodward and at SE Milwaukie and Gideon over the next two weeks.

Construction equipment in use includes dump trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, asphalt cutters, steel street plates and shoring boxes. For the safety of construction crews and the public, please pay attention to signs and flaggers when traveling through work areas. Cyclists should watch for loose gravel in the roadway. The city’s contractor will use skid-resistant steel plates to increase safety.

NW Natural crews are also working near the intersection of SE 11th Avenue and Clinton Street. Their work is not related to the Railroad Crossing Project Update.

Construction will have impacts on surrounding neighborhoods, businesses and commuters.

What to Expect During Construction

  • Open trench construction in the street
  • Steel plates in the street
  • Heavy equipment maneuvering in and out of traffic
  • Small debris in the roadway
  • Lane closures and traffic delays
  • Parking restrictions in construction areas during work hours
  • Flaggers directing traffic

A city construction inspector is on-site during work hours, and may be able to assist you with construction concerns. Inspectors typically wear a green safety vest and hard hat.

Work Hours

  • Daytime construction hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • The City Noise Office has approved 60 days of night and weekend work for this project. The city will include night and weekend work schedules in future project updates.
