August Event Recaps: Clean Up, Job Fair, Business Watch

District Clean Up: Pick it Up Portland
Over 100 volunteers attended the August 31 Clean Up, including Mayor Ted Wheeler! We removed 1600 lbs of garbage overall! This included 2 shopping carts, 80 lbs of metal, and 8 6’x12’ wood beams that were removed form the river. Our graffiti clean up teams removed 200 ft of heavily tagged aluminum privacy fencing and cleaned over 13 blocks! Thanks again to all of our clean up partners and event sponsors.

District Job Fair
The CEIC partnered with SE Works to host our first job fair on August 30th. 40 businesses from around the city set up inside the 100 SE Alder space and over 200 job-seekers attended. The event was so successful, that we’ll surely be doing it again. Please let us know if your business would like to participate in the future by contacting Kate Merrill,  kate@ceic.cc  Thanks again to City Liquidators for letting us use their space.

Central Eastside Business Watch
On August 29th, we held a business watch training. 30 businesses were in attendance. This was the largest training that the City’s Crime Prevention has held! Over 50 Central Eastside businesses have joined now. Like a neighborhood watch, this program creates an information sharing network and provides trainings for participants.
